Reduction in incidence of post puncture headache in obstetrics
Keywords:
anesthesia, cesarean section, post puncture cephalalgiaAbstract
As part of this prospective study, spinal anesthesia was performed in 476 pregnant women. Depending on the spinal needles used there were two groups allocated. Quincke 25 G needles by Becton Dickinson were used in the first group – 212 patients. Sprotte 25 G (Penkan) spinal needles by B BRAUN – in the second group – 264 patients. Additional data collected during this study: age, height, weight, gestational age, number of puncture attempts, severity and duration of the post puncture сefagil. The frequency of post puncture headache development was significantly lower (p < 0.05) in the group where Sprotte needles (Penkan®) were used as compared with the other group. Severity of post puncture headache in the group where Quincke needles were used – significantly longer (p < 0.05) as compared with the group where Penkan needles were used.
